Fall is my absolute favourite time of year. I love pumpkins and all things classic autumn, but I wanted to create a new perspective on the season. Layered colours and textures provided the warmth needed to feel cozy, but when mixed with cool accents, we were left with something breathtaking.
I loved working with this phenomenal team of vendors. We shared many laughs, a few too many pieces of pie, but most importantly we shared a vision.
I hope you enjoy this look behind the scenes of Retro Eclectic.
CELLAR 82 is truly Ottawa's coolest new event accessory! The sleek polished vintage aircraft-style aluminum trailer has been renovated and retrofitted with special features designed to become an unforgettable addition to any wedding. Owner Kasey thought of every detail from the custom serving latched opening, temperature controlled wine fridge, beer keg space and comfortable seating for 10 - 12. This one of a kind mobile unit can be used as a full-service bar or cafe, photo backdrop, bridal suite or even a late night snack station - the possibilities are endless!
FLOWERS TALK TIVOLI is one of those very special flower shops that seduces you the moment you open their front door, with the alluring floral aroma and the abundance of freshly cut flowers. From the lush centerpieces to the eclectic mix of the bridal bouquet, each perfect bloom is artfully arranged so that every element stands beautifully on its own. But when juxtaposed with the other floral and foliage details, this colourful palette creates a painterly aesthetic that is as memorable as the special day it was created for.
MARIO UOMO ITALY has the most amazing selection of stylish menswear. I can honestly say I never really thought too much about men’s fashion until I entered Mario's shop. I was blown away by the beautiful details, endless patterns, cool footwear all mixed with his ability to pull a look together effortlessly. I learned that fit, shape and colour, experimenting with design, and paying attention to smaller items like cufflinks, pins, and pocket squares can make a huge impact while maintaining one’s personal sense of style
COPIOUS FASHIONS once again took our concept and created the most stunning wedding dress that was luxurious yet minimal with an elegant aesthetic. Owner Carissa always takes the time to design unique and personal clothing that tells a story, and this time, the colourful lace back was an evocative tribute to one of her top selling dress designs. This bohemian chic gown was the focal point to this playful wedding concept. In keeping with the retro charm, all of the bridesmaid dresses are also custom made with rich fall colours on patterned fabric and touches of a graphic lace. Copious Fashions continues to impress with her Canadian-made designs.
JACK LOVES MARY PHOTOGRAPHY. After working closely with Kaja on a number of amazing projects, I have realized that our unique perspectives and ideas perfectly complement one another. This styled photoshoot was no different. Now that cooler temperatures have officially replaced summer, I thoroughly enjoyed our time exploring more remote settings. Photographer's Kaja & Kamara capture such an amazing range of images from the smallest detail of a ring to the wide open field glowing from the warm setting sun. I believe that these extraordinary images create a shared connection and become great art through the stories that they tell.
DM STYLIST is committed to enhancing people's personal style while respecting individual taste and personality. Co-founder May is a very talented Editorial Wardrobe Stylist and master of her craft. May’s fabulous sense of style helped elevate the eclectic, tailored vintage theme by helping to put together something truly fashion-forward. Working seamlessly with the larger creative team, she carefully pulled pieces of clothing while paying special attention to the subtle differences in cut, design, colour and pattern, as well as pairing the right accessories with each outfit to create a polished final look.
AMTI (Angie’s Models & Talent Inc) provided us with three very handsome young men, Billal, James and Nonkon . From their perfectly proportioned features to their fun-loving personalities, it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with these talented, professionals who helped bring the Retro-Eclectic photoshoot to life in a very beautiful way.
MEGAN BRADY, our gorgeous freelance model is a true professional and wonderful to work with. Megan’s natural beauty combined with her ease in front of the camera gave this shoot the cool edge it required. She perfectly captured the essence of the Retro-Eclectic bride.
HAIR REPUBLIC was responsible for our Bride's hair and makeup. Prior to the shoot our model Megan went to their boutique hair salon where Michelle and her team turned her into a lovely glowing bride. The makeup was flawless and her hair was artfully styled, with full soft flowing curls that felt romantic and timeless.
CRAVE DESSERTS added a sublime, delicious aspect by creating numerous mouth-watering flavours of pie for this shoot. Crunchy, buttery pecans, seasonal fruit including tart apples dusted with sugar and cinnamon, gooey sweet berries, and juicy cherries filled the perfectly baked flakey, golden crusts completed with hand-shape decorative designs. Alyissa's adorable hand-made pie pops also added an element of unexpected fun. All of these edible creations not only looked great, but they were impossible to resist, so at the end of the shoot everyone enjoyed these sweet treats, including the farm cat who had made a few guest appearances (we named him Pie).
BENCH NINE crafts high quality, finely detailed treasures from valuable metals and carefully selected precious gemstones in their Ottawa studio. I immediately fell in love with their mesmerizing tear drop ring from the very moment I first saw it. I’m in awe of its controlled simplicity and timeless glamour. Each one of Jewelry Designer Elizabeth's creations are both relaxed yet sophisticated, the absolute perfect fit for our Retro Eclectic theme.
ASHLEY BROWN is a super talented graphic designer. Ashley and I first met in high school and after years of admiring her work I was thrilled to feature her on the blog. For this project she took the time to really understand the Retro Eclectic concept. Each piece of stationery provided endless eye candy while feeling cohesive and effortless. Not only are the mix of patterns, simple illustrations, typography and graphics quirky and cool, but they reflect the mellow vibe of this affair.
KRM WELDING is located just outside of Ottawa in Woodlawn, Ontario. At first glance, they seem to primarily specialize in general repairs and welding, but once you meet the owner Kevin, you soon realize that he is a skilled blacksmith artisan building the most gorgeous custom works. The sleek modern design of the picnic table was breathtakingly striking. In addition, its design is absolutely brilliant, weighted to withstand the elements, yet beautiful enough to be used as an indoor dining table. Kevin is one of those people that instantly captivates you, he is a true artist and craftsman with endless ideas and a portfolio filled with stunning creations.
A special thanks to the Davis family for letting us use their picturesque farm land, the perfect setting for our shoot! Thank you to Bryan from GLOSS events & decor, his endless support and muscle helped make sure the setup for this shoot was flawless.
