At GLOSS we are passionate about creating unforgettable events and décor that exceed all expectations, so when we were hand-selected to be part of the exclusive Tie the Knot Urban Wedding Show the fun really began for us. From the moment we received notification of our acceptance over a year ago, we began dreaming of our booth design. There is nothing we love more than coming up with original concepts, so for this event our idea was to put a unique and memorable spin on traditional wedding florals by embracing nature’s most glorious verdant hues. We envisioned lush arrangements in shades of green to celebrate the beauty of nature while fresh hints of white set in large, clear vases calmed the senses.
This vision of organic elegance became a reality with the perfect partnership and botanical artistry of Flowers Talk Tivoli. Together, we created a custom-built wall that became a very dramatic backdrop when filled with gorgeous fresh greenery. In order not to distract, but simply enhance the natural leafy texture, both sides of the booth were lined with our austere gallery-style pillars, and topped with a spectacular selection of glass vessels filled with a mix of impressive cascading white blooms.
Layers of colourful images showcasing past work were arranged beneath the glass top of a contemporary white table that reflected the warm light from a single opulent crystal chandelier. In our eyes, no design is complete without a little bit of sparkle. The overall look of our booth felt both modern and classic. We believe the essence of our design would powerfully complete an urban-chic setting or enhance even the most sophisticated garden wedding.
Our signage was created by two Ottawa-based companies, Canus Plastics & Canadian Buzzard. To us, good design evolves around the idea of simplicity and visual strength. The contrast of the glossy pure white plexiglass and the intensity of the black vinyl decals seemed to bring a unity to the two logos of GLOSS events & decor and Flowers Talk Tivoli implicitly merging their existing boundaries into a clear message that also played with the imagination.
In addition, each visitor was given a gorgeous custom-designed promotional GLOSS postcard by La Fabere printed by Sure Print with a special gift of flawless pearl stud earrings in celebration of so many wonderful love stories. Just our way of saying thank you for taking the time to get to know us, and as an inspiring little romantic reminder of the beautiful work we could create together in the future
GLOSS was honoured when the organizers of the show asked us to create an additional design feature in the form of a custom tablescape. Our goal was to illuminate our range of style by developing a look that would be inspiring to the fashion-forward couple that loves modern elegance with a twist of vintage tradition. We called our vision "CITRUS TUSCAN HARVEST". It came to life by layering metallics of gold, silver and pewter, accented by gorgeous centerpieces and a range of fresh citrus dramatically displayed together on a spectacular rustic harvest table from Makin' It Lovely.
Bold colours are very on-trend and a great way to add a ton of personality to a space. The vivid hues of the stunning floral arrangements interspersed with layers of foliage contained in hammered copper bowls by Flowers Talk Tivoli combined with a mix of antique candlestick holders to add dramatic height truly captured an essence of timelessness. Any negative space that remained was filled with heirloom bowls displaying golden-orange kumquats finished with glass cloches, striking graphic geometric vessels contained maroon-kissed blood oranges imported from Italy, and deep coloured glossy clementines still adoring their dark green leaves were placed freely ensuring that this lush centerpiece became a true statement piece by spanning the entire length of the harvest table.
No detail was missed, and every place setting showcased a Tuscan-themed handcrafted menu by La Fabere. The circular menus were framed by loose, impressionistic Tangelos and leaves from an original watercolour painting and the vellum layers were carefully stitched together with real gold thread. The delicious menu featured a drool-worthy feast designed to celebrate the simple pleasures of food, wine and good company utilizing the casual refinement of basic white bone china tableware contrasted by a smaller plate edged in precious gold-leaf and then framed by elegant gold cutlery for an added touch of refinement. Great seating is always an important element and we were able to enhance our entire design by sourcing an antique church pew juxtaposed against colourful Windsor inspired chairs from EQ3.
Our stunning table signage was created CNC Profiles using the latest cutting technology to reproduce the GLOSS logo in polished stainless steel. Each perfect metal detail was carefully mounted on white plexiglass and then Canadian Buzzard created and applied vinyl logos in recognition of all of the talented vendors that helped make our vision a reality.
The Tie the Knot Urban Wedding Show was anything but typical, it was a welcoming yet luxurious atmosphere that offered one amazing day of incredible inspiration. Intimate by design, the space was broken down into three themed rooms: Stage & Showcase, Lounge & Sweets and Vendor Hall. The Stage and Showcase area featured a selection of gorgeous tablescapes by yours truly, GLOSS & Flowers Talk Tivoli, WEDECOR, Toast, and Sage Designs. The stage featured guest speakers throughout the show offering practical knowledge on a variety of topics to inspire brides, grooms and guests. Lounge & Sweets was located in the main hall. Shelves of candies and baking lined the walls, beautiful brides drank cocktails from the bar with their bridal parties, guests relaxed in the stylish lounges and the sweet scent of cotton candy filled the air. Special shout-out to Makin' it Lovely because my daughter Harper told me that her pink fluff on a stick was her very favourite thing! The Vendor Hall was alive with excitement, music, and a collection of beautiful booths highlighting a variety of carefully selected wedding professionals that happily greeted guests.
We thoroughly enjoyed speaking to everyone that stopped by our booth to chat. We always take a people-first, design focused approach and truly hope that our honest, upfront communication style clearly demonstrates our thoughtful approach to planning each and every one of our weddings. For us, there is nothing better than sharing in the joy and excitement of a couple celebrating their love. Creating weddings that are a reflection of their shared dreams through innovative ideas, meticulous attention to detail, distinct style and vision is our true passion and why GLOSS has become a highly sought after boutique wedding company. We are now looking forward to working with our 2016-2017 clients that we met at the show!
